The details of New York State COVID-19-related restrictions for the summer of 2021 are not known at this time. Anticipating some restrictions based on New York State COVID-19-related regulations in effect this summer (and that changes to the following may be necessary), the Chautauqua Inn will implement the following rules and procedures for 2021:
New York State rules regarding social distancing and mask wearing are in effect throughout the inn (including porches) except in guest rooms.
All common windows and doors will be screened (not closed) in all but very exceptional weather.
Significant changes to the free continental breakfast are likely necessary to comply with New York State guidelines. There will be no communal coffee nor tea. We are contemplating having a coffee maker in each room. Guest will supply their own coffee condiments.
Arriving guests must not arrive at the Inn prior of 3 PM on Saturday. Increased cleaning requirements and possible rules regarding the length of time a room must be vacant between guests require strict adherence to this rule.
Departing guests must depart by 10 AM. This has always
been our policy and most guests follow it well. A very few guests have departed after 10 AM. The comment in the preceding paragraph regarding "Increased cleaning requirements" applies here also.
At this time, uncertainty regarding NYS guidelines leaves open the question whether guest may use the parlor between 10 AM and 3 PM on Saturday.
Guests staying in the same room for two or more weeks will be able to stay in their room on Saturday between 10 AM and 3 PM, and they will be able to exit and enter the building (moving directly between their room and the exterior of the building) during this time.
Guests staying more than one week and changing rooms between weeks will need to have their bags packed in the room they are leaving and leave the building at 10 AM and be “homeless” from 10 AM to 3 PM. This is due to the more intense cleaning and airing of rooms that will need to be implemented this year due to COVID-19. They will be able to sit on porches. They may not have a place to stay in the building during the transition period from 10 to 3. They will not have a bathroom in the Inn available during that time. When the room into which they are moving is ready, their bags will be moved into that room. If the room into which they are moving was occupied the previous week, they will not be able to move into that room before 4 PM.
Much of the above is necessary for the safety of our cleaning staff and quite possibly to adhere to NYS regulations.
The front of the inn faces North Terrace. The back of the inn has access to Whitfield. If you want daily delivery of the "Chautauquan Daily" during your stay, ask the publication office to deliver your paper to "11 Whitfield" and inform Harry that you expect to receive a newspaper.
All rooms have a private bath, refrigerator, microwave and
(except for the Den) a kitchen sink.
